Lauren, Kelly, Jordan, and Olivia Sandwich Carolled during recess - you’ll have to ask them about what that is!
In math we started a new unit on time.
In writing we getting into the drafting stage for our essays.
In reading we are working on narrative nonfiction.
We did a word study assessment for the middle of the year, and we will start new groups by then beginning of February.
Mr. Serano danced in gym again.
We took middle of the year math, writing, and reading assessments – ugh! But they are over now!
Mr. Serano played Mission Impossible with us in gym.
Many of us wore Giants jerseys to school today.
We have a mystery reader today.
Carlyn did the Pledge last Friday since the fifth graders were on a field trip.
We took a fake math test in second steps to help us understand what anxiety feels like and then how to calm ourselves down when we feel anxious about our school work.

Today was the chorus and strings holiday concert.
We had a math show-what-you-know on fractions this week.
We finished our fiction stories.
We had an Authors Celebration with Mrs. Wein’s class.
We learned about two different math websites – That Quiz and Arcademic Skill Builders – to practice our math facts.
It is getting closer to Mrs. Rongoe having her baby – 10 weeks to go!
We had a substitute on Tuesday.
We are having Mystery Reader today.
There are 16 days until Christmas!
In Reading Workshop we started our nonfiction unit. We learned that before you start reading we need to rev up our minds by looking at the subheaders and thinking about what each section might be about!
We finished the Geography Bee – Aby is our class winner – congrats!
We are having model citizenship today, but some of the class will not be participating and will need to think about their behaviors this week to make an improvement for the next week!
We learned two math multiplication games, Quizmo and Tic-Tac-Toe. Olivia, Will M. and Charlie won prizes!
This week many students participated in Gingerbread House decorating after school.

Reminders:
-Read EVERY NIGHT, and JOT, and LOG IN! Try to read a bit from fiction and from nonfiction each night!

We had four half days because of parent-teacher conferences.
We are finishing up our unit on studying characters.
We started publishing our fiction stories this week.
In math we’ve been working on comparing fractions.
We did “That Quiz” for muliplication practice at home.
We didn’t have word study this week.
This week started the month of December!!
We started the Geography Bee this week.
We also didn’t have science this week.
In Writing Workshop we made our covers and we also came up with a title for our story that matches what it’s really about.
There are 23 days left until Christmas!
The first day of Hanukkah is in 18 days!
We are going to start a new reading unit on non-fiction next week.

Reminders:
-Read for AT LEAST 30 minutes every day this weekend, jot, and log in.
-Covers for your fiction story are due on Monday!

Nick thinks Mrs. Rongoe is awesome!
We went to the Veterans Day program on Thursday.
We talked about Mrs. Rongoe’s baby.
We went outside to do the Pledge as a whole school. We also sang some songs but we didn’t know all the words to them.
We are wondering who our mystery reader is today.
Owen was out sick for two days!!
Matt asked our class question at the Veterans Day program.
Some of us changed our reading partners.
We are working on drafting our fictions stories this week.
We finished our story mountains in writing BEFORE we started drafting.
In reading workshop we are thinking about our characters and trying to be more precise and exact when we describe them.
We did another experiment in science measuring how adding blocks to our car changed its speed.
Charlie lost a tooth this week.
In Social Studies we worked on a map of the northeast states and capitals.
Neely and Jordan did a dance with Mrs. Rongoe – the dougie!
